- Don't make the child choose sides.
- Make sure that they know they have nothing to do with it, and that they cannot reverse the situation. Children will often feel like it is somehow their fault and try to find ways to fix it.
- Shield them from conflict. Don't make derogatory statements about the other parent in front of the child.
- Promote relationships with both parents, specifically through quality, one-on-one time.
Children are greatly affected in a divorce.
